Being an artist in contemporary art jewellery, Agapi Smpokou is also the owner of AS Gallery in Iraklion Crete, where she hosts artwork and contemporary jewellery of Greek and international artists. She was selected to take part in the JOYA Barcelona Art Jewellery Fair to present her contemporary art jewellery collection, “Vanity”, which is made of porcelain and porcelain with paper.
The collection really made an impression on the visitors and other participants of the fair. They were so happy to wear the jewellery and take lovely pictures.
“I question the durability and the value of diamonds by working with them in porcelain, a material that has fragility. Diamonds have value because of their durability, clarity and strength. These qualities imply the human need to overcome the fear of death. Wearing diamonds someone might feel powerful, superior and even immortal. Presenting a conflicting material in 3dimentional form, I created this collection to imply the vanity and the vulnerability of the human nature.”
